Language As the Other, 2019
super 8mm transferred to HD digital, silent, 2:33min
Language As The Other references the dichotomy between thing and consciousness, as well as the subject of mechanical focus, alluding to filmmaking.
Meysami's work brings to mind how language itself, both thought, spoken, and as writing, are used to define the idea of the self, and the structure of thought itself. Language is both the self and not the self, it defines us, but is not us, and it is susceptible of crumbling before our eyes, as what was once solid ground can become fluid and unstable, just as the idea of self, or even an entire nation, may also crumble and disappear.
